Get Ready Nonprofits: More Training Offered to Help Critical Services Resume after a Natural Disaster

American Red Cross and NW Natural continue partnership to offer free program to nonprofits

PORTLAND, Ore. — The American Red Cross Cascades Region and NW Natural are offering more “Get Ready Nonprofits” sessions as part of a program that helps charitable organizations prepare for a natural disaster.

The first program took place earlier in the year, and two more sessions will be offered in early 2016.

“We received great feedback from our first round of attendees who wanted to make sure their organizations have solid plans in place to help their employees and clients following an earthquake, flood or tornado,” said Von Summers, NW Natural community affairs manager. “We look forward to continuing the program in 2016 as we know nonprofits want to prepare for a large-scale emergency.”

“The Red Cross is excited to partner with NW Natural on Get Ready Nonprofits to support the local community in planning for, training for and responding to disasters of all kinds,” said Amy Shlossman, American Red Cross Cascades Region chief executive officer. “Our nonprofit partners are on the frontlines in supporting the local community and providing critical services following disasters.”

The second and third sessions of Get Ready Nonprofits will be held Tues., Jan. 26, and Tues., Feb. 16, 2016 from 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. in the NW Natural Hospitality Room. The free sessions will include breakfast courtesy of NW Natural. Topics will include building starter kits for your employees at work, developing plans for your agency’s preparedness, and hands-only CPR.

The first 30 organizations to sign up for each session will receive a free Red Cross emergency starter kit. To register, please contact
