Shining a Light on Local Arts and Culture with More Than $52,000 in Grants from NW Natural

PORTLAND, Ore. — Music, history and theater are just a few of the unique aspects that make Oregon a great place to live and work. NW Natural (NYSE:NWN) is celebrating the region’s arts and culture scene by donating $52,500 to five leading venues.

“We are lucky to live in a place that offers so many ways to enrich our lives and bring us all together,” said Von Summers, community affairs manager for NW Natural. “We’re pleased to support programs like these that enhance our arts and culture community.”

This year, NW Natural shareholders are awarding grants to the following arts and culture organizations:

$15,000 Grant Recipient: Oregon Zoo Foundation
Through partnerships and special events, such as the popular Zoolala gala, the Oregon Zoo Foundation supports the zoo's work to benefit wildlife at home and around the world.

$15,000 Grant Recipient: Portland Center Stage
As the city’s leading professional theater, Portland Center Stage enriches the local art community by bringing stories to life in unexpected ways.

$10,000 Grant Recipient: Oregon Historical Society
For more than a century, the Oregon Historical Society has served as the state’s collective memory, gathering and preserving a vast collection of artifacts, photographs, films, manuscripts, books and oral histories.

$7,500 Grant Recipient: Lan Su Chinese Garden
One of NW Natural’s neighbors, the Lan Su Chinese Garden is much more than just a beautiful botanical garden. Lan Su is a creative wonder—a powerfully inspiring experience based on a 2,000-year-old Chinese tradition that melds art, architecture, design and nature in perfect harmony.

$5,000 Grant Recipient: Oregon Symphony Foundation
Since the Oregon Symphony was established more than 100 years ago, it has been recognized for its internationally acclaimed music directors, skilled performers, diverse programs and outstanding community services in education and regional touring.

In addition to these grants, NW Natural donates more than $1 million each year to nonprofit associations that support youth services, the environment, education and community services. This annual effort is funded by shareholders through NW Natural’s Corporate Philanthropy Fund.
