NW Natural Shareholders Grant Nearly $80,000 for Local Education Programs

PORTLAND, Ore. — NW Natural (NYSE:NWN), has given nearly $80,000 in grants during 2016 to help strengthen a variety of educational programs within its territory.

"We're honored to offer funding to community organizations to help carry out important educational work," said Von Summers, community affairs manager for NW Natural. "Many of the programs offer assistance to vulnerable populations who may not otherwise receive the supplies and education needed to become successful in today's world."

The organizations and donation amounts include the following:

$5,000 - Children's Institute imagines an Oregon where every child is prepared for success in school and in life. Their mission is to move research to action by promoting cost-effective public and private investments in our youngest children prebirth through third grade.

$5,000 - Ethos Music Center believes that all kids, regardless of socioeconomic status or geographic location, deserve access to music education. Ethos provides music lessons, group classes, camps, multicultural performances and workshops to more than 7,000 students across Oregon each year.

$15,000 - Friends of Outdoor School is dedicated to preserving the Outdoor School (ODS) experience for all Oregon students regardless of a student's ability, experience, income or family background.

$5,000 - "I Have a Dream" Foundation - Oregon provides long-term support to children and youth living in under-resourced communities to achieve their full potential, by promoting from an early age, values of higher education and career success, with opportunity guaranteed through financial resources, and other services.

$5,000 - Junior Achievement inspires and prepares young people to succeed in a global economy.

$7,500 - The Library Foundation is committed to nurturing a lifelong relationship with learning and libraries for each person in our community.

$5,000 - OMSI inspires curiosity through engaging science learning experiences, fostering experimentation and the exchange of ideas, and stimulate informed action.

$5,000 - Open Meadow develops connection, capability, and confidence in disconnected youth through relationship-based, quality learning experiences that result in academic, personal, and community success.

$10,800 - OSU Foundation partners with Oregon State University to engage our community, inspire investment, and steward resources to enhance the University's excellence and impact.

$5,000 - Schoolhouse Supplies is based on the belief that every child deserves school supplies and has the right to a quality education. Support for public education in Portland is given by offering students and teachers free classroom supplies.

$10,000 - Stand for Children works to ensure that all children, regardless of their background, graduate from high school prepared for, and with access to, college or career training.

NW Natural donates more than $1 million annually through the company's corporate philanthropy fund. In addition to education, the fund also supports the arts and culture, environmental causes and health and human services.
