Meter Tampering and Gas Theft

When someone physically alters or bypasses a meter to avoid paying for gas services – that’s meter tampering, and it’s considered gas theft.

Gas theft impacts us all.

It’s unsafe. Unauthorized use of natural gas creates unsafe situations for everyone – neighbors, the public and NW Natural employees.

It’s illegal. Our investigators work vigilantly to identify, investigate and pursue prosecution of those who unlawfully help themselves to gas.

It’s costly. We all share the expense of stolen energy.

If you see a damaged or odd-looking meter, someone other than a NW Natural employee “working on” a meter or service line, or someone describing unusually low gas bills due to bypassing a meter, call customer service at 503-226-4211 x5904 or email us so we can follow up promptly.
