Interconnecting renewable natural gas or hydrogen gas supply.

Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) or Hydrogen Gas NW Natural Pipeline Interconnect Services

An interconnect receipt point facility provides pipeline access for a new source of natural gas or hydrogen gas to be sold to the energy marketplace after being interconnected to NW Natural's distribution system. At NW Natural, we promote the injection and use of RNG (biomethane) and hydrogen gas for our customers. We are committed to interconnecting renewable energy projects that provide safe and reliable renewable energy that supports our region's climate goals.

How to get started

Read and complete the RNG Producer Inquiry Form or the Hydrogen Gas Producer Inquiry Form which NW Natural will use for the initial evaluation of your RNG or hydrogen gas project’s potential connection to our system. Once the initial evaluation has been completed, we will schedule a time to meet and discuss the project in greater detail and answer any questions you may have.

Request For Proposal to come (timing: April 15)

NW Natural plans to release a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the delivery of Renewable Natural Gas (RNG). This RFP aligns with the company's broader initiative to comply with Oregon's Climate Protection Program and Washington's Climate Commitment Act, in addition to supporting their goal of reaching carbon neutrality by 2050.

NW Natural seeks pipeline-quality RNG resources and/or associated environmental attributes. The RNG may be sourced from around the country and from a wide variety of feedstocks and sources, including green hydrogen and synthetic methane produced from green or biogenic hydrogen and biogenic carbon sources. Respondents may submit multiple proposals, each with different pricing, volumetric, or contracting options.

Please return to this page on May 15, 2025, to download the RFP materials or email renewables@nwnatural.com to be notified when the RFP is issued.
