• The Washington Supreme Court’s invalidation of the voter-approved ballot measure based on a technicality is disappointing.
• However, it is not a gas ban. NW Natural will continue to provide natural gas service to customers who use natural gas today and customers who choose natural gas in the future.
• The ballot measure would have invalidated expensive state building codes and helped reduce the cost of installing certain gas appliances in new homes. 
• NW Natural’s view is that Washington policy should not make it more expensive for families to use natural gas in their homes while relying on even more natural gas in power plants.  
• According to EIA, in 2025 alone, Washington used 37% more natural gas to generate electricity than was used directly by residential customers. 
• NW Natural will continue standing with customers, labor, and builders to oppose policies that make energy more expensive and limit consumer choice.
