Generators require a steady supply of natural gas at a specific pressure to operate properly. In most cases, this could require an upgrade of your existing meter and/or service line for your generator. 

A trained NW Natural representative will come to your home after you or your contractor provide information about your new generator. They will be able to assess if a meter upgrade is appropriate, and/or if your service line must be upgraded to support the new load.

If your meter needs to be upgraded, a $200 fee will be collected from you at the time of the upgrade. Costs for service line upgrades will vary based on the labor needed to complete the work. NW Natural will determine the additional fees based on the field representative’s report.

Installing a standby generator is a complex job. For long-term safety and performance, installations should be handled by a trained and licensed contractor.

NW Natural only provides the reliable supply of natural gas that fuels your generator. Your dealer or contractor will handle the turnkey installation from the initial site visit to final testing of the unit.
